Airdrie

The City of Airdrie’s population is 61,581 for 2016 (Stats Canada Census 2016).  Airdrie is 32 km north of Calgary on Highway 2. 
 
The Airdrie Community Health Centre is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary facility that includes urgent care, laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, mental health, public health, home care and other services to meet the needs of their growing population.  In addition, physicians provide care to the residents at Bethany Care Centre, 100 bed supported living facility.
 
Primary care services are provided out of 16 clinics.  Through the Highland PCN, Airdrie has a variety of Specialist and/or Specialty programs

Banff

​The Town of Banff’s population is 7,851 for 2016 (Statistics Canada Census 2016).  Banff is 135 km west of Calgary on Highway 1 with an elevation of 1,383m (4,537 feet), making it the highest town in Canada.  The Banff Mineral Springs Hospital (BMSH) is in the Town of Banff, Banff National Park.

The Banff Mineral Springs Hospital (BMSH) has a 24 hour emergency department with CCFP-EM physicians, 22 acute care beds, 25 continuing care beds and 2 operating rooms that are busy providing elective and emergent procedures including plastics, orthopedics, podiatry, and some general surgery. Labour and Delivery actively closed in 2014 and was relocated to Canmore.
 
There are 2 primary care clinics and 4 speciality clinics in Banff.  Specialists that provide services to Banff include Family Medicine, Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, Plastic Surgery and GP General Surgery.  Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Pathology and Medical Microbiology and Radiology visit frequently.

Black Diamond

The combined population of The Town of Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Eden Valley (First Nations), and Longview is 6,162 for 2016 (Statistics Canada Census 2016).  Black Diamond is located 58 km southeast of Calgary on Highway 22. 
 
The Oilfields General Hospital has a 24 hour emergency department, 15 acute care beds and 30 continuing care residents.  Other services housed within the hospital are Continuing Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Nutritionist, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Public Health. There is 1 primary care clinic that serves the local geographic area.

Canmore

The Town of Canmore’s population (including Stoney Nakoda First Nation) is 17,705 for 2016 (Statistics Canada Census 2016). Canmore is 110 km west of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway and just outside the boundary of Banff National Park. 
 
The Canmore General Hospital has 21 acute care beds, 23 long term care beds, an emergency department and a Cancer Care Clinic (supported by the Canmore & District Health Foundation).  Other services provided include low-risk obstetrics and surgical and endoscopy procedures. There are 6 primary care clinics and 6 speciality clinics that serve the local geographic area. Many Canmore physicians are involved with the integrated clerkship program.

Claresholm

The Town of Claresholm (including Granum, Stavely, and Barons) has a population of 5,068 for 2016 (Statistics Canada Census 2016). Claresholm is located 140 km south of Calgary on Highway 2 and has the oldest population in the Calgary Zone- rural.
 
There are 6 physicians practicing out of 1 primary care clinic providing a service to the hospital as well as several health facilities which includes:  Claresholm General Hospital (16 acute care beds) and 24 hour Emergency Department and Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy and Nutrition Services.  Other programs and services within the community include Public Health, Home Care, Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre (100 long term care beds), Claresholm Centre for Mental Health and Addictions (120 psychiatric beds) and AADAC David Lander Treatment Centre (48 residential beds).

Cochrane

The Town of Cochrane’s population is 25,853 for 2016 (Statistics Canada Census 2016).  Cochrane is located 18 km west of Calgary city limits along Highway 1A. 
 
Cochrane Community Health Centre includes Urgent Care, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Home Care, Public Health, Addiction and Mental Health, Environmental Health, Health Promotion, Oral Health, Prenatal/Post-natal Education, School Health, Sexual Health, Rehabilitation, Speech Therapy, and Chronic Disease Management.  In addition, physicians provide care to the residents at Bethany Care Centre, a 78 bed supported living facility. There are 4 primary care clinics that serve the local geographic area.

Didsbury

Towns of Didsbury, Carstairs, Crossfield, Beiseker, Cremona have a total population of 13,591 for 2016  (Statistics Canada Census 2016). This area is located between Airdrie and Red Deer on Highway 2. 
 
The Didsbury District Health Services facility has 15 acute care beds, 20 long term care beds.  Services include Addiction and Mental Health, DI, Laboratory, Public Health, and Physical Therapy.  They have a newly constructed helipad (funded by the Rosebud Foundation) that they hope to have commissioned for use by Transport Canada in 2017.  There are 3 primary care clinics within Didsbury, 1 in Beiseker, 2 in Crossfield, and 2 in Carstairs/Cremona that serve the local geographic area.

High River

The Town of High River’s population is 13,584 for 2016 (Statistics Canada Census 2016).  High River is located 55 km south of Calgary on Highway 2. 
 
The High River General Hospital has a 24 hour emergency department, 27 acute care beds, and 50 long term care beds.  The hospital provides surgical, low risk obstetrics and cancer care clinics. The Cancer Clinic area relocated to a newly renovated larger area in the hospital with the support of the High River Hospital Health Foundation on September 22nd, 2016.  The new space allows for enhanced privacy and the ability to treat more patients.  There are 4 primary care clinics and 1 specialty clinic that serve the local geographic area. The specialists that provide services in High River include Urology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Internal Medicine.

Okotoks

The Town of Okotoks’ population is 28,881 for 2016 (Statistics Canada Census 2016).  Okotoks is 18 km south of Calgary on Highway 2.
 
Currently there are 10 primary care clinics with 1 additional clinic scheduled to open in the summer of 2017. Okotoks has 1 specialist clinic.  The Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre is a multidisciplinary site which includes an Urgent Care, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Home Care, Public Health, Addiction and Mental Health, Environmental Health, Health Promotion, Oral Health, Prenatal/Postnatal Education, School Health, Sexual Health, Rehabilitation, Speech Therapy, and Chronic Disease Management.  Physician supported clinics include pediatrics, cast clinic, minor surgery and a sexual health clinic run by nurse practitioners with support from Public Health and is overseen by a physician for consult by the nurse practitioner.  The Foothills Children’s Wellness Network (FCWN) is supported by the Sheep River Health Trust and focuses on bridging the gap between services for young families in the Okotoks and surrounding communities. 
 
Foothills Country Hospice is a private facility that provides palliative care in partnership with Alberta Health Services. Patients admitted into hospice are cared for by local rural family physicians and members of the Rural Palliative Care Team.  In addition, physicians from Okotoks and Black Diamond provide care to the residents living in two 2 supported living facilities; The Heartland which has 135 beds and Tudor Manor which has 152 beds.

Strathmore

The Town of Strathmore (including: Hussar, Siksika First Nation, Rockyford and Standard) has a population of 14,615 which is an 11.8% increase in population for Strathmore from the 2011 (Statistics Canada Census 2016).  Strathmore is located 53 km east of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway. 
 
The Strathmore Hospital has 23 acute care beds and is the busiest emergency room in rural Calgary.  Sagewood private support living facility provides 130 beds and also has 35 Long Term Care beds.  There are 4 primary care clinics in Strathmore, 1 clinic in Gleichen, and 1 clinic in Siksika.

Vulcan

The Town of Vulcan including Carmangay, Champion, Lomond, and Milo, has a population 2,733 (Statistics Canada Census 2016). Vulcan is located 120 km southeast of Calgary on Highway 23.  During the summer months, there is a significant increase in the service population, specifically the recreational areas of McGregor Lake and Little Bow Provincial Park.
 
The Vulcan Community Health Centre houses 8 acute care beds, 15 long term care beds and includes Addiction and Mental Health Services, Public Health, Home Care, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Physician Therapy, Nutrition Services and Respiratory Therapy.  Vulcan Extendicare is also located within the community and supported by the local physicians which includes 46 Extendicare beds. Primary care services for the geographic area are provided out of 1 clinic that is co-located in the hospital.
